NY - tuff guys/gals

FL. - left lane slow pokes & vehicles that have to squeeze in the very small space between the vehicle in front of you at 85MPH.

DWI's and texting :fire:

People (in front of me) who approach green lights slowly in case it turns red, thus ensuring that it will turn red before I get to it.

JohnnyO mentioned those that are cautious on stale green lights. They don't really tick me off, but those at the opposite of the spectrum do. They push the yellow. In PA that is chronic. I get sick and tired of waiting for the intersection to clear after my light has turned green. Happens all the time.

Gonna catch flack for this one so here's my initial disclaimer. I have the utmost respect for truck drivers and give them all the room they need and deserve. My grandfather was a truck driver his whole life and instilled a great amount of respect for the work they do. I keep my distance; I wait until I can see them in both my passenger side mirror and rear view mirror and then a couple more seconds with my turn signal on before I move back over in front of them on multiple lane roads; I give leave plenty of space for them turn onto a road I'm on if pulling up to my line would actually make it more difficult for them, etc.

But, I hate when truck drivers go under the speed limit (which that is ok and actually respected by me) but will not let me pass when it is perfectly safe and legal to do so. I had such an instance today. Two lane, straight country road through farm land. Every time we would approach the passing zones, he would move left of the center line to discourage me from passing. He was pulling a heavy load it appeared and was doing 45 in a 55. I was in the Tahoe with more than enough passing gear and power to safely go around but he just didn't want that to happen. I don't know if he thought moving left was blocking my view, which it wasn't at the distance I was following, or if he was showing intentions of moving farther left if I tried to pass. Either way, I did not appreciate it.

Here in Texas it is common for people driving on a freeway or Interstate highway in the right lane to move to the left when they approach a entry ramp when vehicles are attempting to merge onto the freeway. I like that and think it's a nice thing to do. However, many of these drivers do not look into the left lane before they pull over and nearly hit other vehicles in the left lane. This has happened to me so many times, that I have come to expect this behavior at nearly every freeway entry ramp....and I am rarely disapointed.

- People not stopping for stopped school buses.

Another one for me is people that do not know when to stop for a school bus. In Ohio, if you are on a 4 lane divided highway, you do not need to stop.

Another one is when a power outage happens, ALL intersections with a traffic light that is out BECOMES a 4 way stop.

Blinking yellow lights mean proceed with caution and do not mean stop.

It bugs me that some people are so clueless as to how traffic light cycling works. They pull up to the red traffic light, but for whatever reason, stay 30 feet behind the stop line. Dumb shits. They're so far back that the sensor doesn't sense their vehicle being there and therefore won't trigger the lights to change in their favor. I've watched people sit there for seven minutes hopelessly waiting for the light to change, which never will. Usually, someone behind them has to get out and tell them to pull forward. Guess what happened when they pulled forward... the light changed in ten seconds. God, what idiots.

Hugh reminded me of another one. Every year my wife and I head to the North Shore of Lake Superior in MN. The Highway along there is 2 lanes w/ passing lanes every once in a while. Every year there are people going 5-10 mph below the speed limit, then when they get to the passing lane, they speed up to 10 mph over the speed limit so you can't pass them (gosh forbid that you get in front of them going the speed limit or slightly over w/ a boat) and then they go back to their 5-10 mph below the speed limit when it gets back down to 1 lane.:smack::soap:

The school bus thing reminded me of something. This isn't something that bothers me but something I actually like. I know it's not done in Pennsylvania or New York as I've seen it not observed and my family from PA think we're crazy, but I'm not sure about other places in the country.

In Georgia, people on both sides of the road stop for funeral processions until it fully passes. It's just a sign of respect. Does this happen anywhere else? I would assume it's probably a southern thing, but I haven't witnessed it anywhere but Georgia.

Hugh,

Yes, it's very common in Texas for people to pull over to the side of the road on both sides when a funeral passes. This does not occur on large divided highways like the Interstates, but it does happen most other 2-4 lane roads.

The only difficulty is sometimes not seeing the funeral coming if they are not preceeded by a motorcylce escort with flashing lights. When my wife died and I was arranging for her funeral, I was surprised to find out that the motorcycle escort was an extra charge item.

Here in Wisconsin, I've never seen anyone yield to a funeral procession except at an intersection. If the lead car has the green light and it changes to red while the procession is passing through, the rest of the vehicles may proceed through the red light without stopping. At a stop sign, the lead vehicle must stop, but following vehicles may proceed through the intersection without stopping. Most funeral processions here (except in the big cities) get a police escort. Private funeral motorcycle escorts are not allowed to have red/blue lights.

Richard L, I always yeild to funerals. I had an iritating issue recently. Coming back from Livingston,Tx. I came up on a funeral on US59 close to kingwood. This is a section, 4 lanes. The procession was in the right lane @ 45mph in a 65mph. The rear cycle escort cop, kept running back and forth in all four lanes. Would not let anyone pass. Even in left hand fast lane. This went on for 15miles. That was crappy. I was really hoping in his weaving he would slip and fall. This was a four lane US highway and uncalled for.

People on cell phones but particularly when they are in parking lots, at stop signs, making turns, etc with cell phone jammed in ear and head tilted over barely able to chew gum and walk, let alone concentrate on driving a car.

Eddie,

Like I said, I have never noticed traffic stop on large 4 lane Hwys or the Interstate, especially on divided Hwys.

It sounds like the motorcycle escort that you encountered got a bit carried away with his job.

I think they don't like cars passing the funeral on the left because that is the lane the 2 motorcycles use to leapfrog ahead of the procession to lead the funeral and block upcoming intersections, then fall to the back when the funeral passes.

Another to add to the list: People that don't acknowledge courtesy. I try to be a courteous driver to others, unless they are driving like anyone mentioned above. If they need to get over in traffic I'll let them in, unlike all of the surrounding drivers that have closed any gaps around them. I am amazed that the overwhelming majority of drivers will not simply put their hand up to say thanks.

I also don't like the term "fast lane". It is the passing lane. If you aren't passing, get out of it.
