Winter's Coming

Well...the snow's gonna be flying here shortly and I was wondering how the Tracs handle and go in the the snow. I traded a Jeep Wrangler (went anywhere I wanted) for the Trac and I don't have any idea what to expect from the Trac while driving in snow. Anybody have any thoughts, experiences, advice, etc? Thanks!:huh:

I have seen plenty of folks here with some impressive snow pics. we do not get much snow here in New Orleans but this is my trac in the snow. i know most people do not even consider this snow but like i said it is New Orleans.:lol:I had no problem

The Sport Trac is a pickup truck. The rear end is light, adding a couple hundred pounds in the bed will help with rear wheel traction.This is a trick that anybody that drives a pickup truck knows. It can be the difference between having to use 4 wheel drive or staying in 2 wheel drive. I have driven mine in snow up to 10 - 12 inches, it drive fine in 4 wheel drive. Even in 4 wheel drive, if you have the wrong type of tires it can cause slipping and wheel spinning problems.

In 2 wheel drive it will behave like any rear wheel pickup truck or car.

I've never had any problems with the rear end of the Trac being too light to get traction in the snow. Make sure you have a good set of tires (not the stock Goodyears) and you should be ok. I had Michenlin LTX M-S tires on my '01, and got around pretty well in 2wd, only shifting to 4wd when the going got really bad. I've got Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's on my '04, and I'm waiting for the snow to fly to check them out.

My ST ran awesome last winter! I would think it depends on the tires also. I have BF's...size??..I don't know, but they were great. These pictures are from a long night with a lot of snow. The ST had to charge it's way up a snowy hill to get home.

I have had my 2001 since new here in South Central Kansas and we have had several 6 to 12 inch snows. No problems here......

I have a 2002 4x2 Trac. Trac does fine and I have no complaints.



The rear end of the Trac is not as light as people think it is. I have been looking for a weigh bias listing for the Trac, but have been unable to find one.

I got my 02 last November just in time for winter here in NJ. My ST was awesome in the snow. I was the only moron out on the roads in the blizzard we got in January that dumped around 2 feet in northern NJ and I didn't slip or slide at all. First thing I did was take the crappy wranglers off and put on Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's (and a couple of bags of kitty litter in the bed) and I was able to plow through a plowed in driveway that had snow waist deep.:wacko:

My ST did as good as it could in the snow last year for being a 2X4 i wish i would of gotten a 4X4

The ST,s pretty good, not to light in the rear,Ive never put weight in it. My old Rangers were really light compared to the ST.

Ive only buried it once and that was in a 6 ft. snow drift, wish I took pic.s, other wise it goes through a foot or two no problem.



But this ones better in the snow, Bring on winter

With the way the ST handles the snow around here I say bring it !!!!!!

Very disappointed but I had the stock Goodyears on my '02 4x4 then. I now have the AT Revos, waiting to see if the tires were the real problem. The vehicle got impaled on snow and I had to have a FWD vehicle pull me out........disgusting!

Mine goes well in snow. I've had a few Rangers/B4000s and agree that the Trac does much better. I wish I had the limited slip and better tires (goodyears SUCK), but I've not been disappointed.



Wife's Liberty has limited slip and full-time 4wd. My Trac does better in snow than her jeep. Of course, she has the Goodyear GSA tires (which are actually MUCH WORSE than the RT/S tires. (she has 70,000 miles on them and still over half the tread! The damn things won't wear out so that I can convince her to get new ones and enjoy a smoother, safer, quieter ride with much more snow traction and less hydroplaning.)

Down here in the snowbelt in the southtowns of Buffalo, we can regularly get a foot and half over night sometimes...plus, we usually have sustained winds of at least 30mph...my tracs pounded through 3-4 foot drifts goin 35mph no problem in 4wd, but right now i have no 4wd module till tuesday lol so it better not snow now.

Funny. My wife traded her 05 Rubicon for the Trac. I feel like it should be safer than the Wrangler. Her previous Wrangler was squirrely in the snow with the short wheelbase.

This will be the 5th winter I've had my ST, and I've only gotten it stuck a couple of times...

Then again, we DID have almost 10 feet of snowfall in one storm last winter, and that was one of the times I got stuck... Too much snow! The other was me taking a corner down the street from my house JUST a wee bit too fast, and putting it in the snowbank!!! Oops...
