There are two methods - supposedly they are in the manual but I never looked before - I don't know how to paste a link on my phone but I googled disabling automatic door locks on 2002 ford explorer sport trac and there were many pages with instructions - I used the turning the key oof and on method which worked well - I am already enjoying not having the doors lock all the time

youse guys have autolocking doors ? how unpleasant ;-)
guess my previous owner had already disabled that.. along with replacing the plastic thermostat housing, and drive shaft.. I got lucky with this Trac..

Kirk love the new headlights! Wow they look good. I have a gen 2 but could use the upgrade. Where did you source those please?

I got the same ones on my 05 ST, along with different brake lights.
I got both off of Amazon & since you have a Gen 2, its pointless to link. haha
Rears were $80, headlights were $115.

& I did Nothing to mine today, yesterday, tomorrow, or all this Freezing ass week!!! :( :( :(
In Pa & hardly got near 30 all fall & winter so far (for the most part)
Now that I have a front shock & oil pan to replace, it will be Lucky to get anywhere near 30* for the next week....

P.O. stripped the oil drain plug completely.
So I tossed a longer bolt in that works.... but it still drips
Not enough to be an issue, other then making a mess over time.

(edit)
nm.....
Now "all of a sudden", its only going to be cold as FK Mon & Tues.....

I have been working on fixing the pig damage - see other threads - but thought I would post a pic of the new ARE topper I had installed the day after I hit the pig

It looks good although for me it was pricey and took 5+ months to get here - not sure if I am going to keep it on all the time or just install when needed

~10" of white stuff overnight; plowed drive this morning
& roughly 1/4 mile of county road down to the mailbox.
Little slippery on the hill coming back up from mailbox in
spots where trees shade road & it gets icy, but ExST does just fine.
County plow finally showed himself ~2pm this afternoon; guess he slept in!
And county taxes just keep going up every year; worthless parasites.

So finally fixed my front end again after hitting a feral pig - two animal strikes in one year - so this time I changed out the front bumper cover, added new fog lights to the new headlights I changed out earlier

learned a lot this time - in addition to changing out the bumper cover I cleaned up everything I could - changed a leaking Trans cooler hose - inspected everything - I would have liked to change the radiator and thought about adding an additional Trans cooler but cost was getting up there - pig strike cost roughly $500 for parts and paint

Paint turned out OK - not perfect but way better than pre-pig - I bought expensive paint from a local paint store who made up some spray cans - white went on well but the clear is a little pebbly so still need to wet sand - painted the bottom section with spray on bed liner that I think looks good - at some point I will need to get the whole truck painted but it passes the 25 foot away test - maybe even 10 ft

Now with the new topper looks like I need to replace the rear leaf springs - going to order some soon

Here in California at 150+ an hour and mark up on parts I am thinking it would have been $2500 to 3 grand

I put a lot of time and effort into this and I am hoping it pays off in the end - I like the truck and feel pretty married to it now so

I left the suicidal pig on the side of the road - it was gone the next morning so I hope a local family was eating good - I got several interesting recipes in response to an earlier post that would have been nice to try but I have neighbors nearby who would not have appreciated me butchering up a pig in my very small backyard - my wife is from Mexico (I am an old white guy) - if we would have been in Mexico I would have thrown it in the back - my father in law makes quick work of a pig

chicarones....

My wife is going to love this post! And you would have been jealous of what we had last night - picadillo tacos with homemade corn tortillas - there is a reason I am overweight

Looks beautiful. I had a ARE topper put on my 04 and I really appreciate the increase in the cargo capacity. Yeah, it's pricey but it makes a great looking truck look even better! Enjoy.

Thanks

I like the look with the topper although I was happy with the look of just the bed cover - but our main family use of this truck is going on long trips with me, my wife, and two teenage daughters so I think the topper is going to make things easier and more comfortable - and I tried to find a used topper but kept striking out...

I note the expense because after 5 years and 70 K expense free miles I have put more into the truck than I paid for it

Probably too much info but in 2020 (pre-covid) I had a new Ranger for a week - I loved the Ranger - comfortable, better acceleration, slightly better gas mileage but did not really give me anything that my ST doesn't - and when I checked into what it would cost for the Ranger with everything I would want it was over 50 K - at this point makes no sense to change - even if I put 10 K into my ST

I should also point out that we have two other cars so this is not really my daily driver - my wife drives a 2018 Chevrolet Volt and I use her old car a 2001 Prius

My Sporty has almost 137,000 miles so, like you, I have had to replace many major components by either myself or a great mechanic I found. The big plus of this site is there are numerous people who know their **** about this vehicle and are very quick to offer help in many ways. I had a 2001 Ranger 4x4 and I loved it for the Minnesota winters but no need for the 4x4 in South Carolina. I stay out of the swamps, too many gators 😂.

Mine now has 247 K on it so you should be able to get a lot more out of it! I also appreciate all the information I have learned from this site - I keep learning..... I think now both differentials need rebuilding so am looking around for someone I trust to deal with it - I would like to tackle this myself but I don't feel set up or have the time to take that job on - maybe when I retire but need it fixed before then - worth it if I can get another 100 K miles out of it
