How do I replace the cables to the tonneau cover locks?

Big Al, I just replaced the whole thing. Ford calls it a cable assembly. It includes the cables and the plastic cylinder that fits over the lock. You basically have to break the plastic cylinder apart to get it off of the lock. I drilled the plastic rivets off to do it. Oh yeah, I had to...

    Windows Update error

TracNJack, We're not running WSUS yet, but we're going to take a look at it. It's free, and it supposedly works better than previous versions. Right now, we're using an app we purchased from Shavlik that has the same capabilities, but we don't want to pay for the annual license anymore...

    O.T.: Secure you notebook

Actually I think it uses the hardware (MAC) address of the NIC and a hash signature of the installed hardware to identify the machine. Then they place that in a memory storage location not used by the operating system, so even if a thief (high-level) formatted the hard drive, it would still send...

    Windows Update error

tracnblack, That's exactly the error my wife's laptop was getting. See linky below for the fix. I just downloaded the new patch (method 2) and installed it.

    Windows Update error

Rich, Haven't had the problem at work - I shut down Automatic Windows Updates, and the ability for network users to use Windows Update, using an Active Directory group policy. We push updates after we're done testing them. In a smaller environment, this can be done with a local group...

    New York to London

So how are you supposed to get from Boulougne-sur-Mer to Dover (across the English Channel)? Dammit, my arms are tired enough already!

Are we starving people around the world?

Here's what I want to know: As the need for corn (and other biomass) goes up, are the subsidies that taxpayers provide to farmers going to go down?

    Broken tonneau cover lock

Rich, You described the problem exactly. I didn't know if I needed to replace the lock cylinder and the cable assembly or just the cable assembly itself. Looks like I have the answer now. Thanks.

    Broken tonneau cover lock

Trust me, it wasn't on purpose. I think one of the latches was jammed up a little, and I turned the key too hard (or too far?) and broke the innards of the lock mechanism. It turns a full 180 degrees now without pulling the latch release cables.

    Broken tonneau cover lock

I broke the forward (factory) tonneau cover lock on my 2005 this past weekend. Anybody ever replace one of these on their own?

help on setting up wireless LAN

mark, On each computer that you want to share files, open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that you want to share (like My Documents), right click on the folder and select Sharing and Security. In the middle of the window click on "Share this folder on the network." You'll want to...

    2005 XLT Suspension

Thanks, guys. In my '01, I didn't really notice a lot of the suspension issues that a lot of you did. In this '05, I notice the bumps over the railroad tracks and the sliding when I come off of curved off-ramps, even at slower speeds. Don't much care for it. Todd, let me know when you get...

    2005 XLT Suspension

So some of you know I traded up from a 2001 to my current 2005 XLT. By comparison, do the 2005's benefit from the standard suspension upgrades (rear shocks, maybe front shocks, EE swaybar)?

    elliptical trainer owners

I was going to say something like it depends on the brand - some trainers have a longer (forward and back) stroke, and some have a higher (up and down) stroke, but with only a 14 inch clearance, I think you're going to hit your head. Even with the trainers that have more lateral movement, you're...

    Pass thru window motor location

Jeff, that flap exists in the 2001s, but it's not cut completely open, so it's hard to see. I haven't had my ST in cold-weather climates, but my experience with these types of gears is that they will be affected by the cold. They're coated with grease, and that grease freezes up and gets...

    Pass thru window motor location

Jeff, Motor location behind the right rear seat storage area. [Broken External Image]: If the initialization doesn't work, and if you're up for troubleshooting the electrical, I have the wiring diagram in my library. See link below.

Question for the computer G's on here...

Maybe it's just me (or maybe not), I leave the computer alone when I'm burning something. I close all running programs before it starts, and go get a cup of coffee or something while it's busy. I get a lot fewer coasters that way.
